요약
This study determined the relationship between the exposure to broadcast media and the oral language skills of students in Speech 1. It also determined the language communication exposure and oral language skills of the research participants and the relationship between and among variables. Furthermore, it also determined if females were more exposed to broadcast media than males. Considering that this study was descriptive relational in nature, the design used was one shot survey.

The population of this study consisted of 180 Speech 1 students enrolled during the second semester, SY 1998-99. The respondents were determined using the systematic random sampling with a random start, making use of the Table of Random Numbers. A questionnaire was devised and utilized to determine the language communication and broadcast media exposures of the respondents. As to the oral language skills of the research participants, Prator’s Accent Inventory was used.

Results showed that the more exposed to language communication and broadcast media the students were, the better their oral language skills; the more English related the course was, the better the oral language skills of students in Speech 1; the more the students were exposed to English, the better their oral language skills; and the females were better in their oral language skills than the males.
