The youth and their environment: An analysis of knowledge, attitudes, and practices of students in Central Philippine University, Iloilo City for the school year 2002-2003
摘要
This study described the level of environmental knowledge, attitudes, and practices of students in CPU. It also determined the differences and relationships of these variables when students are classified according to gender, place of residence, and college affiliation. Mean, t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Pearson’s r were used in the statistical data analysis. Using a researcher-made questionnaire, data were gathered from the 288 randomly-selected graduating college students from the Colleges of Agriculture, Arts & Sciences, Commerce, Education, Engineering, Nursing, and Theology and were processed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Findings showed that the respondents had a “high level” of environmental knowledge and a “highly favorable” environmental attitude towards environmental issues. However, they manifested only “moderately desirable” environmental practices in school. Significant differences in the students’ level of environmental knowledge and practices were observed when they are classified according to college affiliation. Significant correlation existed between the students’ level of environmental knowledge and practices and between the students’ level of environmental attitudes and practices in school. However, the respondents’ level of environmental knowledge is not significantly correlated with their level of attitude toward environmental issues in school.
