Résumé
Diseases in poultry farming is a notable threat in the industry, resulting to fluctuations in immunity and hindrances to growth. Organic treatment is used to alleviate and one of the recognized and valued herbal medicines is the Oregano leaf. Hence, this study aimed to determine the lethal dose concentration (LD50) of standardized Oregano (Origanum vulgare) leaf essential oil among the Philippine native chickens. The experiment started in November 2023 and ended in January 2024. It was conducted at the Central Philippine University Research and Development building Jaro, Iloilo City. The fecalysis and survival rate were performed before and after administering the treatment. Tables were presented to aid the discussion of results and analyzed using percentage mean. The study used was derived from Sanson (2023) which showed that Oregano leaf essential oil can act as an alternative antibiotic in controlling Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Philippine native chicken. Moreover, Oregano leaf essential oil undergone further examination. The tests revealed that the chickens showed no toxicity, and the Oregano leaf has deworming effect when administered with 2000 mg/kg dose after one week of observation. Fecalysis showed a significant decrease in parasitic egg count from 100% before treatment to 75% after treatment. In conclusion, the determination of the lethal dose concentration (LD50) of standardized Oregano leaf essential oil showed signs of recovery, thus proving that it is not toxic and safe among the Philippine native chickens.
