요약
In a health care facility, nurses play an important role in providing a quality service to their patients. Moreover, it is also essential that their welfare and health conditions were considered. Employees were expected that they should provide a safe environment to their nurses. Stressing the importance of a health care facility, it is believed that nurses suffering from occupational health problems would be reduced. Nurses with less health problems could contribute to the increased performance of an organization and decrease health care costs. Hence, this study sought to answer the question as regards the factors that contribute to the occupational health problems among emergency nurses in Roxas City. This study employed the quantitative method. This is a descriptive- relational research which utilized the one-shot survey design. The 20-itemself- administered questionnaires were composed of three parts: the first part of the questionnaire contains the personal characteristics of the participants in terms of their age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, and length of service. The second part covers 15-item questions about the physical, chemical, and biological hazards. The third and final part includes 5-item questions consisting of occupational health problems. The respondents would check only one answer that best applies to them. This was to determine the most common occupational health problems encountered by nurses in the emergency department. Majority of the respondents were below 30 years old, and the rest were 30 years old and above. As to the sex, almost of the emergency department nurses were male. All respondents hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. There were twenty out of fifty respondents who served as emergency department nurses for less than 2 years. Data revealed that there is a greater proportion among respondents that were moderately exposed to occupational hazards.
