In vitro efficacy of dehydrated and freeze-dried ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) powder against Ascaridia galli in Philippine native chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus Linn)
요약
The general objective of the study was to evaluate the in vitro efficacy dehydrated and freeze-dried ginger (Zingiber officinale R) powder against Ascaridia galli S. The experimental treatments were 20 mg/ml, 40 mg/ml and 60 mg/ml dehydrated and freeze dried ginger powder. These were laid out in a completely randomized design with three replications. Albendazole at 10 mg/ml served as the positive control while Goodwin’s physiological saline solution (20 ml) served as the negative control. The potency of the powder was assessed through percentage of mobility inhibition and mortality rate for a period of 16 hours relative to the use of albendazole at 10 mg/ml. Results of the study revealed that the use of freeze-dried ginger powder at 20 to 60 mg/ml was effective in paralyzing A. galli after 12 hours of post- exposure. Dehydrated and freeze-dried ginger powder from 20 to 60 mg/ml showed a significant effect in killing A. galli and as effective as the synthetic dewormer after 24 hours of post-exposure. It can be concluded that ginger powder at different concentrations regardless of its preparation significantly increased the % WMI and % M of A. galliworms which is comparable with that of commercial dewormer.
