A study on the drainage system in he Poblacion Area of Pavia, Iloilo

Abstract

Rehabilitation and improvement of drainage system is one of the priority project in the Municipality of Pavia. This is the answer to the increasing number of industrial, commercial and residential structures in the area and to reduce flooding during rainy season.

The structures to be included in this study are the river discharge protection, the reinforced concrete culverts, concrete lining and riprapping of existing earth drainage canals, rerouting and adding of discharge canals, filling of eroded discharge canals, and widening and desilting of existing drainage canals.

The study covers the entire Poblacion area and some neighboring barangays affected by flooding. Through interviews, observations and experiences during the previous flood occurrences, the needed data were obtained. Some solutions were recommended by technical persons with knowledge in the field of drainage construction.

The study on the drainage system will take several months, and the recommended solutions to rehabilitate and improve the existing drainage structure will need a huge amount of money.

The propose solutions if implemented will be handled by competent men and the management will be turned-over to the office of the Municipal Engineer under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Mayor.
