dc.description.abstract | This descriptive-relational study using a sample survey attempted to determine the relationship between reasons for enrolling in the University and problems encountered by first year college students of Central Philippine University in school-year 2006-2007. This study determined frequencies, percentages and the significance of relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Data for this investigation were gathered from 357 proportionately and randomly chosen first college students of the University from August 7 to 18, 2006, using a researcher-made questionnaire divided into three sections. The instrument was face validated and pilot tested and revised. Data gathered were analyzed using percentages and Cramer’s V with an alpha level of .05. Result showed that the majority of the respondents are 16 years and younger, female, and reside in rural areas. The great majority of the respondent’s parents live under one roof, but some are separated or widowed. They mostly come from families with monthly income of more than ten thousand pesos per month, graduated from public high schools located in urban areas, with an average high school grade of 86.56. Moreover, results showed that age sex, location of residence, living arrangement of parents, monthly income, location and type of school were not significantly related to reasons for enrolling in the University while average high school grade was found to be significantly related to reasons for enrolling in the University. However, reasons for enrolling in the University were not significantly related to problems encountered by the college freshmen. | en_US |
