Information needs, access and extent of utilization of library facilities, resources and services among Central Philippine University faculty members

This study is a descriptive-relational study which employed a one-shot survey design. It aimed to determine the information needs, access and extent of utilization of library facilities, resources and services among Central Philippine University faculty members.

The results of the study showed faculty members needed very much information in instruction, research and extension purposes. Faculty members’ access to library facilities, non-print and electronic resources was low. Access to library print resources by almost half of them was high and access to library services by almost one third of them was moderate. Their utilization library facilities, resources and services as well as personal and department/college facilities and resources was poor.

Faculty members’ information need for instruction, research and extension did not vary when they were grouped according to their personal and work -related characteristics.

Their access to library facilities, non-print and electronic resources did not also teaching load, and length of service but varied when they were grouped by college. Faculty members’ access to library services did not vary when they were grouped by age gender and teaching loads, but varied when they were grouped as to educational attainment, faculty rank, college and length of service.

The extent of utilization of personal/department or college owned facilities by faculty members did not vary when they were grouped by their age gender, teaching load, and length of service but varied when they were grouped by educational attainment, faculty rank, and college. There were variations in utilization of personal/department or college owned print resources, when faculty members were grouped according to their personal and work-related characteristics.

The faculty members extent of utilization of their personal /department or college owned non-print, and electronic resources did not vary when they were grouped by their personal and work-related characteristics.

The extent of utilization of faculty members of library facilities, non-print, and electronic resources and library services did not differ when they were grouped according to their personal and work-related characteristics. Faculty members’ utilization of library print resources did not vary when they were grouped according to age, gender, educational attainment, teaching loads, college, and length of service but varied when they were grouped by faculty rank The faculty members’ need of information in instruction, research, and in extension was not related to the extent of their utilization of personal/department or college owned facilities and resources.

The extent of utilization of personal/department or college owned facilities and non-print and electronic resources of faculty members was related the extent of their utilization of library facilities non-print and electronic resources. Faculty members' utilization of personal/department or college owned print resources was slightly related to utilization library print resources.

Faculty members’ access to library facilities, print, non-print resources and services was not related to extent of their utilization of the library facilities, print, non-print resources and services.

The faculty members’ need for information in instruction, research, and extension was not related to the extent of their utilization of library facilities, resources, and services.
