摘要
The lived experiences of homeless individuals in Iloilo City, particularly those affected by Typhoon Frank, in accessing healthcare services are explored in this study. Researchers used a descriptive phenomenological approach, conducting in-depth interviews with participants who had been displaced and thereby became homeless. Common themes in the participant’s experiences were examined using Colaizzi’s thematic analysis method. Findings show that transportation difficulties, long queues, financial constraints, and a lack of healthcare resources are obstacles that homeless individuals face while accessing healthcare services. After the flood, several participants experienced fever, infections, and respiratory problems as a result of spending too much time in the water and living in subpar housing. Some used government aids, barangay health centers, and medical missions for treatment, while others relied on home remedies and self-care due to difficulties in accessing formal healthcare services. Despite these challenges, participants showed resilience by seeking other ways to deal with their health issues. The study emphasizes the importance of improving disaster preparedness and healthcare accessibility. This research contributes to a broader understanding concerning healthcare problems of displaced individuals and offers information that can help develop better healthcare policies and interventions for the homeless population in Iloilo City.
