Solid waste management: Level of knowledge and practices of public market vendors in the Municipality of New Lucena

Abstract

This research paper is primarily focused on the study conducted to determine the level of knowledge, skills regarding the best strategy and practices on solid waste management among the vendors association of Poblacion Public Market New Lucena, Iloilo. The researcher is a student of Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management in the Central Philippine University (CPU), Jaro Iloilo City which undergone “ON THE JOB” training at MENRO, LGU, New Lucena. The Municipality encountered, in its initial stage, hardship and become their basis element on bringing into completion the letter program for solid waste management. The Municipality has its own garbage practices before the mandate of this program was implemented. These innovating practices are not so much of managing all the waste but in selective form only. It is timely that they come to focus in the issues-problems and appropriate innovations to connect their wrong practices regarding on generated waste. They have come up endless initiatives hoping that their efforts will eventually serve its purpose. There’s no significant relationship between knowledge about solid waste management traditionally practiced and solid waste management adopted and practices among public market vendors in Poblacion Public Market of New Lucena, Iloilo.
