Proposed two-storey design of employees and students dormitory in Guimaras State University, Salvador Campos, Buenavista, Guimaras

Abstract

Dormitory facilities play a vital role in accommodating a large number of students at universities. Under Republic Act No. 11396, which President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed on August 22, 2018, State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) are required to develop and implement a Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan. This plan must include provisions for constructing dormitories for students and housing for employees. However, Guimaras State University, located at Salvador Campus in Buenavista, Guimaras, is currently facing significant challenges due to a shortage of on-campus housing. The university has identified two main issues: the limited capacity of the existing dormitory and the lengthy travel times for students. To address these challenges, a proposal has been put forth for a two-storey dormitory designed to accommodate both employees and students at Guimaras State University, Salvador Campus. This proposal includes comprehensive architectural plans, structural plans, plumbing plans, electrical plans, fire exit plans, cost estimates, and work schedules. The structure was designed in accordance with the standard codes of practice. To ensure efficiency and sustainability, green building technologies such as rainwater harvesting and specific constraints have been integrated into the design. The proposed dormitory features a floor area of 430.70 square meters per level. Construction is expected to take 388 days, with a projected cost of Php 46,987,700.63. Funding for this project will be provided by Guimaras State University (GSU) in Buenavista, Guimaras. Once the dormitory is fully functional, it is essential to install safety and security devices.
