요약
This survey-correlational research aimed to determine the correlates to dance performance among thirty-four (34) randomly selected students in the three (3) universities in China. Frequency counts, percentage analyses, means, standard deviations, the t-test for independents samples, the One-Way ANOVA, and the Pearson's r were the statistical tools used in the analysis of the obtained data. Significance level for all inferential tests was set at .05 alpha. Study results revealed the following: Students who participated in the study are mostly females, are almost equally distributed to the different ages (18-21 years old) and specializes in music education. Students' basic skills training, physical well-being, psychological qualities were found, good and their dancing appreciation, very good. The students' dance performance was assessed very good in terms of choreography, technical skills, performance skills/dance moves, dance rhythm/tempo, and musicality and poor in terms of emotion and costume design. Students' overall dance performance was very good. The students did not differ significantly in their dance performance in terms of choreography, technical skills, performance skills/dance moves, dance rhythm/tempo, emotion, musicality, and costume design among the students classified according to sex, age, and major. The students did not differ significantly in their overall dance performance when classified according to sex, age, and major. Positive and significant correlations existed among basic skill training and dance performance in terms of choreography, technical skills, performance skills/dance moves, dance rhythm/tempo, emotion, musicality, and costume design. The students' sex, age, and major were not significantly correlated with their dance performance in terms of choreography, technical skills, performance skills/dance moves, dance rhythm/tempo, emotion, musicality, and costume design. Finally, positive and significant correlations existed among the students' basic skills training, dancing appreciation, physical well-being, and psychological qualities and overall dance performance. Based from the results of the study, a dance training program for university students was developed.
