Quality of life and severity of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) among student nurses in a selected university in Iloilo City
요약
This study explored the relationship between quality of life—specifically diet, exercise, and sleep—and Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) severity among student nurses in a selected university in Iloilo City. Using a descriptive-correlational quantitative design, data were gathered through a modified 41-item survey questionnaire adapted from validated tools. The survey covered demographics (age, year level), Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) severity, diet quality, exercise patterns, and sleep quality. Content validity was ensured through expert review. A total of 261 student nurses was selected using Cochran’s formula with stratified random sampling: 61 first-years, 57 second years, 56 third-years, and 87 fourth-years. Data collection was conducted via Google Forms and physical copies. Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) summarized responses, while Spearman’s rho correlation determined relationships between quality of life factors and Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) severity. The study’s findings provide valuable insights into the impact of lifestyle factors on Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) symptoms. These results may serve as a foundation for developing wellness programs and targeted interventions to enhance student nurses’ quality of life and academic performance.
