Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the different parenting styles perceived and the self-development of college students and its levels. This study was anchored on the parenting theory of Baumrind and Ryff's Model of Psychological Well-Being. The respondents were chosen using probability sampling, specifically the stratified and simple random sampling, with the sample size of 324. A quantitative multiple correlational research design was utilized to determine the significant relationship between the perceived styles of parenting and the participant’s level of self-development through each dimension. The data were collected online via Google forms and analyzed with SPSS. Results showed that authoritative and authoritarian parenting have no significant correlations to self-development, except authoritarian parenting, which was notably related to purpose in life (p = 0.007). And the results showed positive moderate correlation for permissive and neglectful parenting styles toward the self-development of college students. Among the four parenting styles, only permissive and neglectful demonstrated the most notable connections with self-development among college students in the study.
