ELVEGIA R. Mendoza is a nurse, mother, orchid lover and wife of an AFP colonel. Now she is also a brigadier general, the first woman to hold that post in the Armed Forces.

Mendoza and 28 other new star-rank officers were sworn into office by President Aquino during simple rites in Malacañang yesterday.
