摘要
The purpose of this study was to determine the local literature collection of private higher education institutions’ libraries in Iloilo City. Specifically, this study aimed to determine the collection of local literatures in terms of publication status, type of works and type of materials. Furthermore, the classification systems used in the organization of the collection were also determined. Finally, using the qualitative research and employing the documentary analysis; an annotated bibliography and index of local literatures in these libraries were produced. The findings of the study revealed that there are 128 published and 15 unpublished materials; a total of 143 local literature items in the libraries of the 3 HEIS of Iloilo City; Central Philippine University, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, and University of San Agustin. In terms of content; the majority of the materials focused on local literature, followed by local history, and only a few sources focused on local knowledge systems and practices. The majority of the local literature is in the form of monographs, with a minor number of thesis/dissertation, pamphlets, research reports, and catalogues. Library of Congress Classification System is used by University of San Agustin while Dewey Decimal Classification System is used by Central Philippine University and John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University in the organization of these local literature.
