Predictors of National Achievement Test scores in Science among grade VI pupils
요약
This study was conducted to determine the NAT scores in science among Grade VI pupils using APSA scores in science, mathematics, and English, GPAs in science, mathematics, English, and Filipino and IQ score as predictor variables. Correlational research was used to determine significant relationships between variables. The 50 randomly sampled (Frankel and Wallen, 1993) Grade VI pupils enrolled in one private university in Iloilo City for the S.Y. 2014-2015 served as research participants. Secondary data were obtained through analyses employing the Mean, Pearson's Product Moment Correlation, and Multiple Regression Analysis. Results revealed that pupils excelled in APSA English while their highest GPA was in Science. IQ and NAT scores in science were almost at a comparable level. Pupils' APSA scores GPA's and IQ and NAT scores in Science were interrelated. APSA scores in Science and GPA in English were significant predictors of NAT score in Science. Results of the multiple regression analysis confirmed the relativeness between academic performance and academic achievement of the pupils. This was in accordance with the Cattell-Horn-Carroll theory that pupils' cognitive ability and academic achievement are associated.
