Résumé
This study covered selected municipalities of Iloilo Province who has problems on their respective dump sites and have allegedly violated the Ecological Waste Management Act of 2000. This research employed a case study in reaching the desired objectives. The study is a qualitative type in nature and had utilize the use of documents such as newspapers, social media or internet news articles, environmental publications and existing laws about this study.
This study revealed that policies though they are of an essential ingredient in creating and operation of solid waste management programs, would not be enforced successfully without exercising good governance that would promote participation of the different stakeholders. The promotion of awareness campaigns in bringing the right information to the people to make them understand what the policies are all about is very important. The truth is, waste management is not simply about waste, but it is more on the lifestyle of the people that changes through time and the continuous search for better life. Thus, addressing waste management issues do involve not only environmental concerns but also economical and social concerns.
