Abstract
This study was conducted in compliance with the requirement for the degree Master of Ministry. It aimed to know and explain the role of diakonos in Acts 6:1-8 and its implications to the current understanding of the role of diakonos among selected deacons and deaconesses of the Janiuay-Badiangan Circuit of Baptist Churches. Fifty deacons and deaconesses were the respondents and the instrument used was the literary and survey research.
Specifically, it aims to:
1. define the term “deacon”.
2. understand the biblical origin of deacons/deaconess.
3. identify the role of deacons/deaconesses in the early church.
4. list the qualifications of a deacon/deaconess.
5. explain the procedure on how to become a deacon/deaconess.
The result of the study showed that deaconesses are the majority in the service and in their retirement age. Some of them are well-informed about their roles, functions, and responsibilities while others are not. But as long as service to the Lord is concerned, they are happy doing their part as God’s servant.
