Abstract
This special paper deals with the topic, “Divorce as Jesus Sees it- a Biblical Theological Reflection on Divorce and Its Implications in the Church and Philippine Culture”. It is an attempt to investigate and discover Christ’s teaching and perception on divorce. It includes Jesus’ teachings on the issue of divorce as recorded in Matthew chapter 19. It also consists of his views as well as some views from the New Testament like that of Paul and some other prominent people up to the present time.
The aim of the first major topic is to re-evaluate Jesus’ idea about divorce which he allowed to happen as reflected in Matthew and St. Paul’s views about divorce mentioned in some of their letters in the New Testament.
The second major topic is about Jesus’ concept of divorce as understood by the church. The nature and the mission of the church is being reviewed in this section. It also analyzes how the church responds to this issue, which is happening to our local churches. In the Philippines, the church must have a sound and strong position regarding this delicate issue affecting the church in general.
