Abstract
Studying provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and mind set to thrive in various environments and circumstances. A conducive study environment can be a valuable tool in helping individuals strengthen their foundations for future success. This study aimed to determine the environmental conduciveness to studying and academic performance among student nurses at a private university in Iloilo City, Philippines. The researchers used a descriptive-correlational design. Using stratified random sampling (N = 1004, n = 287), data were collected using an 18-item adapted questionnaire. Majority of the respondents were female (75.3%), with a mean age of 20.4 years. Most students preferred to study at home (74.2%). Among the environmental factors, only lighting showed a strong positive relationship with academic performance (p = 0.002), while noise, temperature, and internet connectivity were statistically not significant (p = 0.790, p = 0.553, p = 0.706) respectively. These findings corroborate the study of Kiziltunali (2023) that a higher chance of success may result from optimal lighting, which tends to increase overall performance while reducing eye strain and fatigue, contrary to Martinez et al. (2020) who found inconsistent lighting effects on performance. This study highlights the complex relationship between environmental factors and academic success, emphasizing the importance of study conduciveness.
