Knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) on food safety among residents in a selected District in Iloilo City

Abstract

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) outbreaks pose significant health risks, evidenced by a recent surge of 237 cases in a district in Iloilo City. Inadequate food safety practices often contribute to such outbreaks, highlighting the urgency of assessing residents' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to food safety. This research study aims to understand food safety KAP among residents and its implications for combating AGE outbreaks. Utilizing a descriptive correlational design, the study seeks to illustrate the relationships between various food safety variables and present the current situation. Snowball sampling will be used to select respondents from barangays most affected by AGE. A researcher-made questionnaire will determine correlations between knowledge of practices and attitudes towards practices, considering age, gender, educational attainment, and family income. This research underscores the importance of addressing food safety issues to prevent food and waterborne diseases. By identifying factors influencing residents' food safety behaviors, the study aims to inform behavior change initiatives and regulatory enhancements for the public health in a district in Iloilo City.
