This study about the Sangguniang Kabataan, their level of knowledge on the provisions of RA 7160 sec. 431 which mandated their creation, and their level of performance based on certain criteria was done in the municipalities of Balasan, Barotac Viejo, Carles, Estancia, Lemery and San Dionisio, Fifth Congressional District of Iloilo. A one-shot survey design was used with researcher-prepared questionnaire as the research instrument administered to the total population of 138 SK chairpersons. The statistical tools used were mean, frequency, percentage, t-test and Pearson r. The level of significance for hypotheses testing was .05. The findings of the study showed that majority of SK chairpersons were 18 years or older, majority re female, predominantly single, most are in college, and residing in mainland barangays of the municipalities in the Fifth Congressional District of Iloilo. As a whole group, their level of knowledge on the provisions of RA 7160 se. 431 was average which held true irrespective of age, sex, civil status, educational attainment and place of residence. There was also fair level of performance among the SK chairpersons which was retained despite groupings of the respondents by their age, sex, civil status, highest educational attainment and place of residence. There were no significant differences in the level of knowledge of the respondents on the provisions of RA 7160 sec. 431 when they are grouped according to age, civil status, highest educational attainment and place of residence. There was no significant correlation between the SK chairperson’s level of knowledge on the provisions of RA 7160 sec. 431 and their level of performance based on these provisions. The researcher concludes that the expectations on the level of knowledge of SK chairperson on the provisions of RA 7160 sec. 431 did not materialize since it was only average. Their performance was likewise, not impressive being fair only. Female SKs are more knowledgeable than the males probably because they are more conscientious of their responsibility as chair of the organizations. The performance of SK chairpersons was not influenced by their level of knowledge on the provisions of sec 431 of RA 7160. The researcher recommends trainings of the SK chairpersons to improve their knowledge on their responsibility with the organization. Barangay councils should involve the SKs in their activities to develop their leadership. They should properly guide the SKs to the proper management and administration of their organization.en_US
