Abstract
Academic performance is an important determinant of a learner's capacity to learn, remember, and use knowledge, demonstrating their competence and success in a study program. It is determined by numerous factors, such as the quality of sleep and study habits. Medical-Surgical Nursing is a fundamental course in nursing studies that deals with the management of adult patients with various medical conditions and surgical requirements. It requires sound clinical judgment, extensive knowledge of disease care, and the competence to execute nursing interventions. Due to the complexity and requirements of the subject, the students may undergo academic stress, which can influence their sleep habits and study habits. This quantitative research investigates the correlation of sleep quality, study habits, and grades of 227 third- and fourth-year nursing students in a chosen private university in Iloilo City. With the use of standardized questionnaires, information was gathered on students' sleep quality, study habits, and grades. Statistical analysis was conducted to identify correlations between study habits and sleep quality, and their combined impact on Medical-Surgical Nursing course grades. The results indicated that poor sleep quality and poor study habits have a negative effect on academic performance, highlighting the importance of time management skills and good sleep habits among nursing students. The research emphasizes the need to balance academic requirements with well-being to maximize learning results and general student achievement.
