| dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to evaluate coffee consumption and mental health among 3rd year student nurses in a private university in Iloilo City during the academic year 2023-2024. A probability-stratified random sampling design was employed using ratio and proportion per strata to analyze the relationship between coffee consumption and the mental health of student nurses in a private university. 224 student nurses were selected as respondents using stratified random sampling. This study adopted a questionnaire from an existing study, the General Health Questionnaire-12 to gather the data. The 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) is a screening instrument to detect psychiatric disorders in community settings and non-psychiatric clinical settings. The 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) was used as a screening tool to detect psychiatric disorders in non-psychiatric settings. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, mean, and percentage were utilized to summarize the data collected. For inferential analysis, Spearman’s rho was applied, with a significance level set at 0.05. The findings of this study indicated no significant relationship between coffee consumption and mental health scores among students. Further analysis of coffee consumption patterns across mental health score groups showed relatively uniform distribution, with no consistent trends. These findings implied that coffee consumption was not a significant predictor of student nurses’ mental health levels. The study highlighted the need to investigate other behavioral and environmental factors that may more directly influence student mental health. Coffee consumption has no bearing on the student nurses’ mental health. | en_US |
