Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999: Awareness and practices of tricycle drivers in San Jose, Antique
Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the awareness and practices of tricycle drivers in San Jose, Antique about Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999. A one-shot survey was done on October 5-15, 2018 among 286 tricycle drivers of San Jose, Antique by using an interview schedule as the research instrument. The data collected and edited were processed and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Results of the study revealed that most of the tricycle drivers were generally married with an age range of 31 to 40 years, Roman Catholics, attended or completed high school; had an income of below PHP 2,000 per week, had no other source of income other than tricycle driving, had a family monthly income of PHP 7,001 to PHP 10,000 and had 5 to10 years of driving experience. The tricycle drivers owned the tricycle that they were using, had a brand new motorcycle, brand new sidecar and with tricycles of 5 to 10 years of age. The tricycle drivers have moderate to high level of awareness and high level of practice in relation to the Clean Air Act. No significant differences in awareness on the Clean Air Act were found on tricycle drivers according to their personal profile and tricycle profile. There was a significant difference in the mean practices score of the tricycle drivers when they were classified according to their age but no significant differences when they were grouped according to their civil status, religion, educational attainment, income from tricycle driving, source of income other than tricycle driving, family monthly income and years of driving. There was a significant difference in the mean practices score of the PHILIPPINE CLEAN AIR ACT OF 1999: AWARENESS AND PRACTICES OF tricycle drivers when they were classified according to the age of their tricycle but not when they were grouped according to their tricycle ownership, motorcycle status, and sidecar status. There was no significant relationship between awareness and practices on the Clean Air Act of tricycle drivers in San Jose, Antique.
