Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the community perspective on mining in the municipality of Maayon, Capiz. The one shot survey design was used to gather data from 280 out of 1035 respondents using a researcher made survey instrument. All the data collected were coded and electronically processed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. Descriptive data analyses like frequency, percentage and mean distribution were used in the study. Results of the study revealed that the respondents were, generally, 40 years old and below, male, married, with elementary level of education, from Brgy. Canapian, farmers, Roman Catholic, barangay residents for more than 40 years, and are involved/experienced mining, specifically panning. They have moderate level of knowledge about mining, have perceived negative social effect, negative to highly negative environmental effect and positive social effect of mining. The respondents were not in favor of small scale mining and large scale mining.
