dc.description.abstract | This study profiled the 62 current out-of-school youth of Buntatala, Leganes, Iloilo. The method used was a one shot two-part survey. The first part of the questionnaire asked about the family, age, educational level of the parents, highest education attained of the out-of-school youth. The second part asked about their past school experiences, current activities, reasons why they stopped schooling and their goals and dreams. The results show that majority of them are females, 18 and 21 years old, Roman Catholics, high school graduates, and studied in government schools. Their mothers are elementary graduates and are housewives, while their fathers are high school graduates and construction workers. They have three or more siblings, do not have anyone living in their house aside from their family, have a family income below Php 3,000, have fair English Proficiency, own their houses which are made up of native materials, and are located near the farm. They are working but have no government support like 4 P’s, and boyfriend/girlfriend relationships. They go to church, don’t know where their soul will go when they die, believe that Jesus Christ is God; and finances is their major reason for being out-of-school, and are still interested to study again. Therefore, the out-of-school youth of Buntatala, Leganes, are productive, hard working, and not a menace to society. Their lack of finances to pursue a college degree is not hopelessness to them, rather a challenge that can be overcome | en_US |
