Abstract
This study was conducted at Central Philippine University in the Academic Year 2010- 2011. The objectives of the study were to: describe the characteristics of AB English students by age, gender, year level, residence location and high school where they graduated from; identify the learning style preferences of AB English students in literature classes; and determine the learning process preferred by literature students. Data were collected through a one-shot survey using a self-administered questionnaire. The gathered data were processed and analyzed using frequency and distribution. The study revealed that there were more female respondents than male in this study and half of them were from ages 19-21. Results also showed that more than half of the respondents reside in the city while a little less than half of the respondents live in the province. The greater number of respondents were from 2nd year level and the rest were from 3rd year and 4th year levels. More than half of the respondents graduated high school in private schools while less than half were graduates of public schools. Results further showed that the physiological learning style and the global learning process were the most preferred by the respondents. Based on the conclusions of the study, it was recommended to use more extensive data gathering instrument to include specific literature competency testing. Furthermore, to enhance teaching methodology and strategy to train students to use their learning capability with their style of leaning and consider the planning and formulation of programs based on the understanding of how effective learning is when style and process of learning are matched with the needs of the curriculum not only in literature but for all classes of the learners.
