A study of the present occupational status of the civil engineering graduates of Central Philippine University from 1990 to 1996
Abstract
This study aims to describe the occupational status of the civil engineering graduates of Central Philippine University. It also attempted to determine the work- related characteristics of the graduates according to age, sex, civil status, year graduated, licensure exam passed and units/diploma earned in the post graduate studies. The work related characteristics considered in this study included: present employment status, major occupation, and major industry classification.
The result of the study shows that civil engineering graduates of Central Philippine University from 1990 to 1996 were engaged in gainful activities at die time of the study. The 78.7 percent were male who were engaged in die professional/technical occupation and most were involved in the construction industry. They were 28 years old on the average and most of them were married. There were more younger graduates engaged in die professional/technical occupation than the older graduates. Of the ninety seven CE respondents the majority were board passers. Only one in ten of them have earned units/diploma in the post graduate studies.
The study further shows that three-fourth were engaged in the technical professional and related works. They were engineers, scientists, inventors and teachers. Slightly more than half of the CE graduates were employed in the construction sector. Their industry classification does not vary according to age and civil status.
