Proposed computer center for the College of Engineering, Central Philippine University
Résumé
The laboratory of the College of Engineering at present cannot provide enough space and equipment required by the courses using it. It can only accommodate, at one time, 50 students. With the present enrollment figures, each student is not given enough time to work on his/her project because of the lack of units available. More computers are needed once the computer science department transfers to the College of Engineering by School Year 2001-2002.
The proposal provides the solution to this problem by expanding the laboratory’s capacity by adding three more rooms to provide space for 150 more computer units. The proposed set-up will now allow classes to be conducted inside the laboratory for special subjects requiring hands-on instruction like computer-aided drafting. By expanding the capacity of the laboratory, the college will have leeway to use its added resources for much more computer extensive engineering practices.
With more space and units to maintain, the proposed set-up needs provision for maintenance and operational procedures to efficiently manage the laboratory. The plan includes the setting-up of the organization that will run the laboratory and with each member having a specific job description. Having a detailed job description allows the members of the organization to work efficiently and cohesively with each other. Other features of the new laboratory set-up include the disaster plan which states provisions for fire and flood that are not included in the existing laboratory provisions.
The proposed laboratory, therefore, improves on details for security and organization, which is vaguely defined in the present set-up and also improves on space and number of available computer units.
