Résumé
The study is Smartphone Use and Daytime Among Psychology Students in a Private Higher Educational Institution. The sample consists of two hundred thirty-one respondents. This study aims to investigate the relationship between smartphone use and daytime sleepiness among psychology students at Central Philippine University. The research will explore the extent of smartphone use, and the level of daytime sleepiness, and determine if there is a significant correlation between the two factors. Using descriptive correlation research design, the researchers utilized the Smartphone Addiction Scale - Short Version (SAS-SV) to measure smartphone use and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale to measure daytime sleepiness level. The data was analyzed using SPSS to determine the correlation between smartphone use and daytime sleepiness. Results revealed that the respondents exhibited a moderate extent of using smartphones and also a moderate level of daytime sleepiness. Finally, the correlation test revealed a significant relationship between smartphone use and daytime sleepiness. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected. These findings suggest that it need to be interventions to support students in managing their smartphone use and improving their sleep quality. The guidance counselors, professors, health care providers, and LGUs are recommended to provide seminars or have symposiums to educate students and to help them to maintain a healthy balance between technology and their overall well-being and to minimize their daytime sleepiness.
