Résumé
This study was conducted to determine the use of electronic resources by junior high school students as a basis for creating a library literacy program. It utilized the descriptive/correlational research. The respondents of the study were the 291 junior high school students in a private school in Bacolod City enrolled for SY 2019-2020 and were selected using stratified random sampling. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to collect data. The data were analyzed using frequency count, percentages, mean, t-test for independent sample, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s r. Majority of the respondents were male, most were coming from Grade 8 and were from section A. Results showed that, for strategies to encourage the use of electronic resources under teacher-initiated requirements, the topmost strategy was respondents used electronic resources for research/ Science Investigatory Project (SIP). On the perceived roles of the library in promotion and marketing, the topmost answer was that the library should conduct orientation of the available e-resources and how to access it for the Grade 7 students at the beginning of the school year. There was a moderate utilization of library subscribed electronic resources/ databases such as e-books and e-journals, and teacher initiated requirements vary according to grade level. Results further showed that there was no significant difference found in the perceived roles of the library in promotion and marketing when grouped according to sex, grade level, and section. The extent of utilization of electronic resources varies according to the section. There was a significant relationship between teacher-initiated requirements and the extent of use of electronic resources and between perceived roles of the library in promotion and marketing and the extent of use of electronic resources. The topmost barrier/problem encountered in using electronic resources was that respondents preferred to use the Internet (e.g., Google/Yahoo) than the library. A literacy program for students on the use of electronic resources was thereby proposed.
