요약
The case study evaluates the effectiveness of C02 thermal decomposition for medical waste treatment in Pototan, Iloilo. This study investigates the current medical waste management practices, assesses the feasibility and environmental impact of C02 thermal decomposition, and analyzes the economic viability of the technology. Data were collected from three trials, measuring variables such as waste volume, burning time, ash residue, fuel consumption, and labor. The average medical waste processed was 327 kg per trial, with a burning time of 580 minutes, producing 17.6 kg of ash and consuming 12.66 liters of fuel. The study highlights the machine's potential in significantly reducing medical waste volume and preventing the release of harmful pollutants, thereby enhancing public health and environmental safety. However, the machine's location in a densely populated area raises concerns about emissions and air quality, indicating a need for comprehensive air quality monitoring and potential relocation. The findings suggest that while C02 thermal decomposition is an effective technology for medical waste treatment, strategic implementation and continuous monitoring are crucial to optimize its benefits and mitigate any adverse effects.
