Knowledge about solid waste management and solid waste management practices of Jaro Big Market vendors in Brgy. El 98, Jaro, Iloilo City

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the knowledge about solid waste management and solid waste management practices of market vendors in Jaro Big Market located in Brgy. El 98, Jaro, Iloilo City. The one-shot survey design was used and data were gathered from 92 respondents in Jaro Big Market. All data were processed and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Frequency and percentage distribution were used as basis for the data analysis and interpretation. Results revealed that the respondents in this study were generally above 4 1 years of age, female, married, and mostly are college level. The respondents generally had an average capital investment of Php46,211.96, with an average monthly income of Php20,125.00 engaged in grocery store type of business and below 5 years doing their business. The majority (69.6%) of the respondents have knowledge about proper solid waste management as indicated by their correct answers to the given questions. None of the respondents have a high level of practice. More than half (55.4%) have a moderate level of practice and the rest (44.6%) have a low level of practice.
