Abstract
This study aimed to know the preference of the Korean students of BS Education major in English and AB English between the book and the movie of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone series. Specifically, the study aimed to 1) Determine the respondents’ characteristics in terms of sex and course, 2) Determine the respondents’ preferences when grouped according to sex, and 3) Determine the respondents’ preferences when grouped according to course. This study is anchored on the communication theory known as social change theory. Social change theory states that the increasing use of communication support development and innovation has stimulated effort to systematize a process for such uses. The scope of this study was limited only to the Korean students of BS Education major in English and AB English of Central Philippine University in Iloilo City. This only determined both the preference and the comprehension of the respondents on the first series of the Harry Potter selection. The study only aimed to determine the students’ preference in general and when they are grouped according to sex and course. The respondents of this study were the Korean students of BS Education major in English and AB English enrolled during the first semester of school year 2010 to 2011. Majority of the respondents preferred Movie over Book of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
