This research study analyzed and compared the film adaptation of the novel Gone Girl. The similarities and differences of the film adaptation were identified based on the characters, setting, plot, conflict, and theme. Using the Formalist Approach, it was found out that alterations were made in the film adaptation. The film adaptation altered minor points in the story like omitting a part of the treasure hunt that Nick and Amy have for their anniversary, and the absence of a major character. The film adaptation replicates the setting in the book and manages to stay true to the source. There were changes in the plot, but they did not affect the themes and conflicts found in the book. In summary, the film stayed true to its source although there were some minor alterations. With this study, it is hoped that movie goers will consider reading the book from where the film was adapted to better appreciate the story. It is also hoped that book readers will appreciate film adaptations and be more understanding whenever their favorite book is adapted to the big screen. May it help them understand why alterations are made whenever a book is adapted for the big screen.
