Abstract
This study is an analysis of women’s role in society as portrayed in selected local and international films of 2014. It was conducted to determine the roles of women and their significance in society. Specifically, the films Beauty in a Bottle and The Best of Me were chosen and subjected for analysis. The films were viewed and analyzed. Each film was evaluated based on the characters’ speech, actions and interaction with other characters. It has been concluded that the two films shared similar attributes, aside from having women as lead stars. First, the roles of women depicted in the selected films are patterned from Western countries and that the difference of the two roles is in how they are portrayed and depend upon the target audience. Second, the changes in the role of women are different in terms of time span of the stories, but despite the difference, there are certain degrees of similarities in terms of acceptance. This leads to the third conclusion; significantly, women accept their own changes, and society also tend to attain a certain degree of acceptance and adjustments, so once the changes are accepted and embraced, their immediate environment which is the society, the changes between the person and environment become mutual.
