The purpose of this study was to determine the local literatures collection of State University and College libraries in Panay Island. Specifically, this research aims to: 1). identify the local literatures collection of SUC’s libraries in terms of: types of work; types of materials; and publication status; 2) classify the local literatures collection according to Dewey Decimal Classification System, subject entry and status of material; 3) Produce an annotated bibliography and index. The study used descriptive research as well as documentary analysis in producing an annotated bibliography and index. The state university and college libraries in Panay Island have a collection of local literatures with a total number of three hundred forty (340) titles classified as local literature, local history, and local knowledge systems and practices. The total number of local literature materials in SUC libraries is two hundred fifty-three (253) titles; whereas fifty-nine (59) titles are on local history, and twenty-eight (28) titles are on local knowledge systems and practices when categorized according to types of work of local literatures collection in general and in SUC libraries in particular. The analysis of data showed that the collection is categorized into print and non-print materials. The different SUC libraries have the existing collection of two hundred eighty- one (281) titles of printed materials which are all published and unpublished books. On the other hand, there are fifty-nine (59) titles of non-print materials which are the unpublished sound recordings at the UPV Library. Findings reveal that Panay Island has a very rich local literatures collection. The local literature collections in the state university and college libraries are more extensive than the local history and local knowledge systems and practices. The richness of our local literatures collection is not made known to researchers. In this aspect, the researcher concludes that this annotated bibliography and indexes are a valuable research tool for they augment the access to the rich and rare collection on local literature, local history, and local knowledge systems and practices of Panay Island.en_US
