Abstract
This study was conducted to analyze the images of Ilonggo women in three narratives of Magdalena G. Jalandoni. Content analysis was employed and matrix design was utilized.
At present, gender inequality is still persistent in the society. Women are faced with inequalities in economic, educational, sexual, and social empowerment. Women, for the longest time, seem to be the missing piece in the development path. In Asia, the Philippines has been showing strides in this issue. Yet, in all aspects, there seems to be a gap in women empowerment. A descriptive-qualitative employing content analysis study aims to analyze the images of Ilonggo women in the three narratives of Magdalena G. Jalandoni using women empowerment of (economic, educational, political, sexual and social) Marxist Feminist analysis.
Moreover, Ilonggo women in Magdalena Jalandoni’s work were clearly economically empowered, but not educationally, sexually and socially empowered under the patriarchal system of the family.
However, women of today have improved compared to women in Magdalena’s time as depicted in her texts. Today, women have increased their own self-reliance; assert their independent right to make choices and to control resources.
