Abstract
This study was intended to determine the relationship of schools’ length of operation, current population size, type of school and accreditation status and library’s personnel profile such as number of library personnel and the compliance with Philippine library standards of school libraries in the Province of Capiz. The study was conducted between December 2016 and January 2017. This is a descriptive-correlative study that made use of the one-shot survey design. The Philippine library standard for school libraries, which is being adopted by Department of Education through DepEd Order No. 56, series 2011, enclosure No. 2 issued last July 19, 2011, was used in this study. The data collected were processed using SPSS utilizing frequency distribution, percentage and Cross tabulations using Gamma coefficient of correlation and Cramer’s V in analyzing relationship between variables. The findings showed that the majority of school libraries are from Public School in Capiz Division and mostly are not accredited schools. Almost one-half of the school had a population of 501 to 1000 students and have been operated for 20 years and more. Most of the school libraries had no full-time licensed librarian and have not complied with the standard of librarian student ratio. Most of the school libraries had fair level of compliance with the standards in the area of human resources and administration, learning resources and collection, services and utilization, physical facilities and linkages and networking and had poor level of compliance with the area of selection, organization and maintenance of holdings, information technology and financial resources. The relational analysis showed that the schools length of operation, current population size, type of school and accreditation status and librarians profile such as number of professional librarian were found to be associated with school libraries compliance with the standard in terms of human resources and administration, learning resources and collection, selection, organization and maintenance of holdings, services and utilization, physical facilities, information technology and facilities, financial resources and linkages and networking.
