Tolerance of Philippine native chickens to neem (Azadirachta indica Juss) stem bark extract
摘要
This study was conducted at Central Philippine University Research and Development Center, Jaro, Iloilo City from September 14 to 24, 2019 to determine the tolerance of Philippine native chickens to neem (Azadirachta indica Juss) stem bark extract. Specifically, this study aimed to determine signs and symptoms of neem stem bark extract over dosage. Twenty-four Philippine native chickens were introduced with four different dosages (300, 500, 1000, 2000 mg) allocating six (6) chickens for each treatment set. First set of chickens were administered once with base dose of 300 mg and were monitored for 24 hours. The birds were individually observed with their respective treatment dosage during the first 30 minutes then periodically for 4 hours within the 24-hour test. Observation showed that the chickens were still alive and healthy and showed no signs and symptoms of over dosage. Oral administration of capsules to the succeeding sets of native chicken were further increased to 500mg, 1000 mg and 2000 mg. Chickens were fed with grower feeds in an adlibitum manner after the oral administration of NSBE capsules. The results of the test revealed that the chickens survived even the highest dose of 2000 mg of neem stem bark extract.
