<title>Navigating the meaning of the oral literature in Alimodian: A thematic analysis</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12852/3559</link>
<description>Navigating the meaning of the oral literature in Alimodian: A thematic analysis
Camral, Luna T.
This ethnoliterary qualitative research aimed to collect, document, and analyze select oral literature from the upland areas of Alimodian, specifically in Barangay Umingan and Sitio Balogo, Barangay Pajo. The focus was on folktales and the folk song "banggianay." Six informants were purposefully chosen based on recommendations from elders and community leaders. Data was collected through one-on-one interviews and focused- group discussions, using audio recordings. Four stories and two songs were collected, documented, and subjected to thematic analysis. Social constructionism guided data interpretation, while themes were extracted using thematic analysis. Triangulation was applied to validate the interpretation and results. Findings revealed several recurring themes: life is difficult, nature is important, magic or supernatural powers exist, the good or innocent always prevail, greed or selfishness brings loss/shame, man is the master of his own fate, adversities bring out the best in a person, true love must be willing to sacrifice, women are highly regarded, and parents are honored. Based on these themes, the following conclusions were drawn: 1) Ancient people lived a difficult life, heavily dependent on farming, fishing, and hunting due to limited resources and technology. 2) They believed in magic, spirits, and supernatural beings, attributing luck or fortune to them. 3) Ancient people valued hard work, perseverance, resilience, kindness, respect for women, and honoring parents, while discouraging selfishness, greed, and irresponsibility. 4) Ancient people were romantic lovers, with men demonstrating gentlemanly behavior, honesty, self-sacrifice, and determination. The preservation of oral traditions like folktales and Banggianay songs is vital for understanding the cultural heritage of Alimodian, as these traditions offer insights into moral lessons, social norms, historical context, and the enduring values that have shaped ancient Filipino society.

<description>Teaching English: Lived experiences of elementary teachers under the new normal
Tagudando, Jubert C.
The study was conducted to uncover the lived experiences of teachers teaching English in this new normal. The insights, challenges, adjustments both on the personal and professional lives of participants upon the implementation of Modular Distance Learning in selected Elementary schools in the district of Tubungan were investigated. The researcher employed phenomenology approach to collect and analyze qualitative data. One-on-one interview, observation and documentation techniques to gather adequate qualitative data were utilized to scientifically explain the phenomenon. The findings revealed that teaching English in the new normal is challenging for teachers having no enough experiences with the current mode of teaching and learning modality. However, Modular Distance Learning has brought both advantages and disadvantages on their personal and professional lives. The result indicated that teachers teaching English found it challenging to do their roles effectively due to the lack of prior experiences and sufficient trainings which could help them function well as educators, tasked with teaching English in this new set up. Printing learner’s materials, delivering modules, checking outputs, giving assessments and providing interventions were among the common challenges faced by the participants. Despite these challenges, participants viewed teaching English through modular distance learning as an entirely new experience on their teaching profession.

<link>https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12852/2099</link>
<description>Work-life balance and work engagement of medical technologists in a government hospital in Iloilo City
Deslate, Joyce F.
This study aimed to determine the level of work-life balance and work engagement of medical technologists in tertiary government hospitals in Iloilo. Specifically, this study aimed to describe the personal characteristics of medical technologists in terms of age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, length of service, income and job status; determine the medical technologists’ degree of work-life balance in terms of work-family conflict and family-work conflict; determine the level of work engagement of medical technologists in terms of vigor, dedication and absorption; determine if there is a significant relationship between the medical technologists’ personal characteristics and their degree of work-life balance; determine if there is a significant relationship between the medical technologists’ personal characteristics and their level of work engagement; and determine if there is a significant relationship between the medical technologists’ degree of work-life balance and their level of work engagement. This is a descriptive- correlational study that employed a one-shot survey design. The non-experimental design was used to describe the degree of work-life balance and level of work engagement of medical technologists in a public hospital in Iloilo city and to explain whether a relationship exists between these variables. The study revealed that majority of the respondents were female, most were single, big majority with no Masters degree, forty three point six (43.6%) percent were on permanent status and mostly earned three hundred thousand (300,000) pesos annually. Ninety percent of the medical technologists had fairly good balanced work and life and time spent for work was not a conflict with family responsibilities or interfere with home or family life. Big majority showed a high level of work engagement, thus often times to almost always they were bursting with energy at work, felt so strong, vigorous, and intensely challenging tasks made them feel happy. Civil status and job status showed significantly related with work life balance in terms of work – family conflicts, single medical technologists had fair to good work life balance while married ones showed fair work life balance, moreover the results showed that work life balance in terms of family – work conflicts had nothing to do with the personal characteristics of the respondents. There were no significant relationships between vigor and dedication to either the personal characteristics of the respondents. A high level of work engagement showed to those with bachelor’s degree holder while average level showed among those who started enrolling their Masters degree. The degree of family – work conflict was significantly related with work engagement while the degree of work- family conflict was not significantly related to work engagement. The level of work engagement in terms of vigor revealed a significant relationship with work life balance in terms of work – family conflict. Neither work – family conflict nor family- work conflict were significantly related with work engagement in terms of dedication. There was no enough evidence to reject the null hypotheses on the relationships between work engagement in terms of absorption and work life balance in terms of work- family conflict and family-work conflict.
