This study correlated the probable factors affecting English proficiency and the English proficiency of Grades V and VI pupils of Central Philippine University (CPU). It further examined the similarities and differences of the respondents according to the factors listed, and their association to the English proficiency of the pupils. Chi-square, Cramer’s V, and Gamma analyses were used to analyze data collected from 174 Grades V and VI pupils from the CPU Elementary Department who were subjected to a self-administered one shot-survey. The findings showed that female pupils are more proficient than male pupils, as shown in the results of the English proficiency test administered by the researchers. Reading frequency also bears on the English proficiency of the pupils. Other factors such as age, sex, income of parents, educational attainment of parents, study hours, perception, extent of television viewing, text messaging, extent of use of online social networks and computer games, and reading frequency.

Ocampos, Gera Eunice G.; Talamor, Cherry Earl G.
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of knowledge on Philippine Folkdance of CPU PEHM majors. Specifically, this study aimed to determine the extent of knowledge of CPU PEHM majors on different types of Philippine Folkdance and determine whether the type of school graduated from and gender is related to the extent of knowledge in Philippine Folkdances. The researchers used descriptive survey and the test questionnaire as the basic tools for gathering data. There were twenty two (22) PEHM major students who answered the test questionnaire. The mean, frequency, and percentage count were used to determine the extent of knowledge in Philippine Folkdances and the data were analyzed using chi-square, and percentage count as statistical tool with in order to determine the significant difference in extent of knowledge between sex and type of school graduated from. The total majority of the extent of knowledge in different types of Philippine Folkdances among PEHM major students in Central Philippine University during school year 2006-2007 is fair (45.5%). There is no significant difference between sex and the extents of knowledge on Philippine Folkdance (sig. 739) and there is no significant difference between type of high school graduated from and the extents of knowledge on Philippine Folkdance (sig. 0.395). The extent of knowledge of PEHM major students of CPU on Philippine Folkdance is fair, with no significant difference in the extent of knowledge between sex and type of high school graduated from.

This study was done to determine the academic performance in Mathematics of Grade VI pupils of Central Philippine University Elementary School for the School Year 2006-2007, using the descriptive survey design. The findings showed that there were more pupils who received helped both from their parents or tutors although majority of the pupils had low previous grade in Mathematics. Slightly less than half (47.6%) of them had met the standards in the achievement test, with lowest proportion considered highly proficient (4.8%)and one-fourth (21%) not meeting the standards. The academic performance in Mathematics by most of the pupils was low. There was a highly significant and strongly positive correlation (p=0.000) between the previous grade of the pupils in Mathematics and their academic performance in the subject. Likewise, a highly significant and strongly positive correlation (p=0.000) between the achievement test results and the pupils academic performance in Mathematics. There was a significant difference in the academic performance in Mathematics of the Grade VI pupils according to the help received.
However, there was no significant difference in the academic performance of Grade VI boys and girls. Based on the findings, the researchers found out that the Grade VI girls and boys of the CPU Elementary school did not significantly differ in their academic performance in Mathematics contrary to the general belief that boys are better performer in Mathematics than the girls. The academic performance of the Grade VI pupils in Mathematics can be predicted by their previous grades in the subject and the results of the achievement test in Mathematics.
