<summary type="text">Heirloom weaving as an expression of the Ilonggo culture and heritage: A multiple case study
Ramos-Abonado, Gemnoe
Heirloom weaving, a longstanding cultural tradition among the Ilonggos in the Philippines, is increasingly endangered by modern industrialization, changing economic priorities, and declining interest among younger generations. This qualitative multiple case study investigates heirloom weaving as an expression of Ilonggo culture and heritage, focusing on five municipalities in the Province of Iloilo: Alimodian, Tigbauan, Janiuay, Cabatuan, and Badiangan. This study explores the lived experiences of local weavers and the socio-cultural significance of handloom textiles in preserving identity, tradition, and local economies. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis, highlighting the role of community mentorship, intergenerational transmission of knowledge, and the impact of socio-economic pressures on cultural sustainability. Findings reveal that despite challenges, heirloom weaving continues to foster cultural pride, community cohesion, and economic resilience. The study offers insights and strategic recommendations for policy interventions, tourism integration, and educational initiatives aimed at revitalizing and sustaining this intangible heritage. It contributes to the broader discourse on cultural preservation, local identity, and heritage tourism development in Southeast Asia.

Labinghisa, Erika Love P.
This study examines the appreciation, creativity, and sustainability of agritourism from a multi-stakeholder perspective to develop a strategic tourism plan for Iloilo Province. It explores how tourists, local communities, tourism managers, and government agencies contribute to agritourism development and identifies factors influencing stakeholder engagement, the role of creativity in enhancing experiences, and sustainability measures for long-term benefits to local communities and the environment. A mixed-methods approach was employed, integrating quantitative and qualitative data collection. The quantitative phase involved 122 stakeholders, including 15 farm operators, selected using G*Power software. Data were gathered through a researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, means, standard deviation, t-tests, and One-Way ANOVA. The qualitative phase included semi-structured interviews with 12 purposively selected stakeholders, analyzed thematically to capture recurring themes and insights. Findings indicate strong stakeholder appreciation for agritourism, emphasizing cultural, environmental, and recreational value. High ratings were given to aesthetic appeal, hands-on activities, and cultural authenticity, supported by themes of scenic beauty, cultural integration, and environmental harmony. Creativity was identified as a key factor in agritourism development, with stakeholders highlighting immersive farm experiences, local food offerings, and educational activities as essential attractions. Sustainability was also rated highly across economic, social, and environmental dimensions, with agritourism contributing significantly to employment, financial stability, community development, conservation efforts, and eco-friendly practices. Statistical analysis revealed that local stakeholders exhibit greater appreciation and creativity recognition than foreign tourists, while sustainability perceptions remain consistent across demographics. Qualitative findings suggest that targeted promotional efforts, enhanced storytelling, and immersive experiences could increase foreign tourists’ engagement and appreciation. The study concludes that agritourism in Iloilo holds substantial potential for sustainable rural development. Recommendations include improving infrastructure, fostering stronger community participation, enhancing marketing strategies, and increasing government support. By integrating education, sustainability, and economic viability, agritourism can strengthen local economies while preserving cultural and environmental assets.

Santos, Marivic C.
Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) play an essential role in driving economic growth and employment in the Philippines. In response to the challenges faced by the MSMEs, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) implemented the Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) Program to strengthen entrepreneurial capabilities through structured mentorship and coaching. This study explored the lived experiences of mentee graduates from Region VI (Western Visayas), focusing on the meanings they attributed to their triumphs and tribulations after completing the program. Guided by a constructionist epistemology and interpretivist perspective, a phenomenological approach was used to uncover how participants interpreted their entrepreneurial journeys. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with purposively selected mentee graduates representing diverse business sectors. Thematic analysis revealed that the program fostered entrepreneurial confidence, strategic decision making, market responsiveness, and business innovation. Participants emphasized the value of mentorship in enhancing self-efficacy, expanding networks, strengthening financial and operational practices, and adapting to digital platforms. However, findings also highlighted continuing challenges such as limited access to sustained government support, financial constraints, market competition, and managing workforce dynamics. These show that while KMME facilitated foundational growth and strategic mindset development, on-going post-program assistance is needed to support long-term enterprise sustainability.
