This paper documents the works and lives of selected visual artists from Panay provinces. The selection of the artist was based on meeting at least two of the following criteria: (1) The artist should have a major award(s) in any prestigious national fine arts contests which included the MADE (Metrobank Art and Design Excellence), AAP (Art Association of the Philippines), Petron, GSIS (Government Service Insurance System), and the Biennial Dumaguete Open Terra Cotta Festival contests; (2) He/she should have had one-man or two-man exhibitions at reputed galleries; and (3) He/she should be active in the local art scene, meaning, a continuous schedule of exhibits during the past three years. Mostly self-taught, the artists’ artistic inclinations manifested early in childhood when they discovered their talents; this led to their resolve to seriously pursue with enduring fervor their art careers. Their sense of calling amid a less ideal art scene did not give way to the voice of conformity but they have maintained a clear sense of identity and destiny as inspiring art icons in their milieu. The analyses of the works of these artists lead to the observation of the Panayanon artistic tradition. Aside from the formalist descriptions of the artworks’ features, the analyses go further into the contextual and evaluative levels that reveal a highly nuanced meaning and semantic richness of the works. The paintings and sculptural pieces of the artists are expressions of their true “voices”, fresh innovations that have earned accolades even if these innovations are untamed by the academe.

This study was conducted to assess the annual physical and laboratory examinations conducted for students, faculty and staff of Central Philippine University in SY 2004-2005. Descriptive research design was used and an analysis of the responses from 293 respondents in a one-shot survey was carried out by the use of frequency and percentages. The findings of this study showed that the students, faculty and staff perceived that the physical examination conducted for them was comprehensive, while the laboratory examination for students, faculty and staff was perceived to be not comprehensive. The faculty, staff and students want laboratory examinations to be included in the annual physical examinations. The students want the additional cost of laboratory examination to be shouldered by the University while the faculty and staff are willing to pay for additional laboratory examinations.

Learning interventions in business management education should not just promise vague outcomes. In this study, the researcher determines the acceptability of teacher-designed programmed modules in Production Management for classroom learning using the evaluations of expert jurors and student-users. The modules use the critical elements of mastery learning and proven effective teaching practices. After the researcher has developed them, students are given an orientation about the learning intervention which they have evaluated after using. The jurors who are known experts in the field also assessed the modules using quantitative and qualitative inputs. The findings show that the modules are generally very satisfactory in terms of physical aspects, objectives, instructions, learning, and evaluative instrument using separate and combined evaluations of the two groups of evaluators. This points out that they are acceptable as a learning intervention. The evaluation paves the way to develop a self-learning kit suited to the idiosyncrasies of unique learners.

This paper compares the level of innovativeness and achievement motivation of teachers from a public and a private college. It further aimed to correlate these main variables to the organizational orientation, age, type of institution, and sex of respondents. The 122 full-time faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences of CPU (private) and WVSU (public) were subjected to three tests: the level of innovativeness, achievement motivation and the organizational orientation tests. Comparing the CPU and WVSU CAS teachers, the faculty members from both CPU and WVSU CAS were moderately innovative. Those from WVSU CAS worked in a formalized and relatively rigid or mechanistic organization, whereas, the faculty members in CPU CAS worked in a mixed organization. Teachers from both institutions had a high achievement motivation. Innovativeness level was significantly influenced by achievement motivation level possessed by the teachers and organizational orientation. It was not, however, influenced by age, sex and type of institution. On the other hand, achievement motivation level could be explained by sex and age of respondents. The type of institution and organizational orientation had no bearing with the achievement motivation of the teachers.
