This action research was conducted to determine the awareness of the Faculty of the Biological Science Department of West Visayas State University (WVSU) of the different Science Collections of media materials of WVSU Library and its effect to access and retrieval. This study was conducted from June 15, 2007 to October 15, 2007.  The subjects of the study are the twenty (20) Faculty members of Biological Sciences Department of WVSU. This action research utilized a questionnaire survey and statistical report to gather the data needed.  The result revealed that the faculty unawareness of the science collections of non-print materials greatly affect the usage of the users in the statistics of use of the non-print materials from the last four years (2003-2006) and its increase on the statistic of use for 2007 report reveals an effective change on the awareness of users, the classification of the materials and its inclusion on the library database – the Athena and the provision of the current awareness to the library customers has brought an effectual access and retrieval of the materials.

<summary type="text">Increasing effective use of online database services to USLS college students via library faculty administration collaboration and creative marketing strategies

This action research was made to determine the effective use of online database services to USLS college students. This will also help to improve increase the awareness and usage of the college students by  giving  solutions to the problems encountered by the users. The objectives of the study are to identify the purpose of the students in going inside the library, to identify the awareness of the students on the availability of online database, to identify the reasons and problems of the students of not using online database and to find out the most frequent used database by the students.  The respondents of the study  were the college students of the University of St. La Salle enrolled this first semester  2009 – 2010.&#13;
Questionnaires were distributed to determine the awareness of the college students in the use of online database. The results were tallied  by frequency counts and the percentage were able to get based  on the total number of respondents. Statistics on the usage of online database were gathered from previous year. These were computed and analyzed  and compared  to the results to this year’s usage.&#13;
Several problems of the students on the use of online database were identified. The researcher also presented the  suggestions and comments of respondents to improve the services of online database.

The descriptive method of research was used particularly the normative-survey method.  The instrument utilized to survey was the questionnaire.  The dependent variables used were year level of the respondents, while the dependent variable is the “High School Students’ Satisfaction in Using Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) of the University of San Agustin Library, AY 2010-2011.

<title>Prevention of losses in the collection of GSC-Mosqueda campus library</title>

<summary type="text">Prevention of losses in the collection of GSC-Mosqueda campus library

Library is committed to the purchase of information resources in all appropriate formats. As responsible stewards of the library collection, librarians monitor collection needs to identify areas of rapid growth or particular weakness with the intent of providing the best possible access to information and service to patrons. The ultimate responsibility for collection development, as with all library activities, rests with the Librarian, who operates within the framework of policies determined by the Library Board.  This responsibility is shared with other members of the staff and the library recognizes its responsibility to maintain the collection in good condition and to ensure its availability.&#13;
 	This research aimed to prevent losses in the collection of GSC – Mosqueda Campus Library. Specifically it looked into the degree of losses and the causes of this problem. The specific action of intervention was implemented to correct library staff practices on the implementation of library policies and preventive measures to avoid losses. Likewise, to keep library staff to be vigilant in the monitoring of the library users. The respondents of the research were the library in-charge of GSC-Mosqueda Campus and 1 student assistant. To gather the data, observation and interview were used. The result of investigation revealed that there were 64 volumes of the 3, 785 total holdings, 52 titles of 1,498 total titles in the collection. The losses resulted to 3.47 % titles and 1.69 % from the volumes diminished from the library collection. It was that the library staffs were not so vigilant in monitoring the library users. The library policies and preventive measures were not properly implemented. Therefore, these contributed to the losses of books.
