ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to assess the implementation of the coastal resource
management in Barangay Avila, Buenavista, Guimaras. Specifically, the study aimed to
determine the socio-economic profile of households living near the Avila Marine
Sanctuary, level of awareness, involvement, and perceived achievements/
accomplishments of Avilla Marine Sanctuary Management Program; the relationship
between the profile of the households and their level of awareness, involvement, and their
perceived accomplishments of the program; and, the interrelations between awareness,
involvement and perceived accomplishment of the program. The study made use of the
one-shot survey design to gather data from a total of 90 respondents using a researcher-
made interview schedule. Results of the study revealed that the respondents were
generally females, married, housewives, in their forty’s, with high school level of
education, and earning an average of PHP 53,467.11. They had high level of awareness,
involvement and perceived achievement of the Coastal Resource Management. The age,
sex, marital status, educational attainment, occupation, annual income, and religion were
not significantly related to the level of awareness about Coastal Resource Management.
However, religion was significantly related to level of involvement and annual income was
significantly related to perceived level of achievement. The level of awareness of the
respondents was directly or positively related to their level of involvement and level of
perceived achievement of the Coastal Resource Management. The level of involvement of
the respondents in Coastal Resource Management was directly or positively related to
their level of perceived achievement of the Coastal Resource Management.
